ABOUT

Sweatband Records is a proudly grotesque, relentlessly creative independent record label based in Los Angeles, founded by composer/multi-instrumentalist Tommy Meehan (GWAR, Squid Pisser, Cancer Christ, Deaf Club, The Manx, Chum Out!, etc.) and elusive performance artist DJ Embryonic Petit Sac. Since 2009, the label has served as a sanctuary for artists who are too loud, too weird, too wild, or too brilliant for the mainstream.

With a catalog that spans harsh noise, one-man grindcore, mutant pop-punk, psycho-jazz, and aggressively queer rap, Sweatband Records thrives at the intersection of chaos and craft. Its genre-agnostic roster includes the likes of Squid Pisser (feat. members of GWAR and Starcrawler), CNTS (feat. members of Dead Cross), Melted Bodies (currently touring with Horse the Band), Keddies Resort (fuzzy pop-punk sweetness), the experimental duo Oort Smog (a side project of avant-prog legends Upsilon Acrux), and QUI, the cult art-punk duo whose records have featured Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) and David Yow (The Jesus Lizard).

Sweatband has also collaborated on co-releases with notable labels Three One G and SKiNGRAFT Records, further expanding its reach in the underground music scene.

Beyond the records, Sweatband has made waves in film with its vinyl release of Dude Bro Party Massacre 3, featuring Andrew W.K., and released its first compilation, Neon Corpse Parade Volume 1, as a testament to its ever-mutating underground. Meehan’s music has been featured in Cartoon Network shows (Rick and Morty, Uncle Grandpa, Tig N’ Seek) and the video game Marvel Strike Force, further highlighting the label’s roots in multidisciplinary art.

With physical releases on vinyl, cassette, and CD, and a full web store launched in 2020, Sweatband Records is a vibrant, gross, noisy, and utterly unique engine of strange culture. This is outsider art turned up to 11 — and it’s only getting louder.
